FTI Performance Introduces the Gen 3 XPM Billet Bolt Together Torque Converter Line

This is big news for those drag racers out there who are running a high horsepower combo and backing their engine with a torque converter. FTI Performance Introduces the Gen 3 XPM Billet Bolt Together Torque Converter Line which is the most tunable, most interchangeable, and most user friendly ultra high performance torque converter on the market. Because each piece is interchangeable, the racer can carry multiple stators, turbines, pumps etc to make their combo work to its best ability and they can do it without having to wait on parts!

This truly is an innovation from FTI and one that we believe racers will take advantage of. Back when the torque converter started to make major inroads into ultra-high horsepower drag racing, the common refrain was that “you can’t tune them like a clutch…” but the real truth is that now you basically can. Amazing!

FTI Performance Introduces the Gen 3 XPM Billet Bolt Together Torque Converter Line

December 10, 2020 (DELAND, FL) FTI Performance expands their product line with the introduction of the Gen 3 XPM billet bolt together torque converters. This line is revolutionary to the converter market as each piece is interchangeable to make it self-tunable. With multiple options for various components, FTI gives the customer the ability to change their converter to fit their personal combination.

Each component of the FTI Gen 3 XPM torque converters are CNC-machined and interchangeable. Multiple options for the billet stators are available for roots blowers, screw blowers, nitrous, N/A, Pro Charger, and turbo. The customer has a choice between spragless and sprag combinations. The billet front cover fits all flex plate combinations (bolt patterns) including HEMI. All turbines are available with all splines from Lenco, GM, and Ford. With multiple pump angles available, all pumps are available with bolt on capability for the Lenco, GM, and Ford. The torque converter fits up to 1” thick block plates without the need of changing covers. Another customizable option is the ability to change the 10” torque converter to a 9” unit and vice versa to adapt to the customer’s combination.

With each part balanced and sold separately, the customer has the ability to buy each piece one at a time like an engine build. As the first user-buildable torque converter from FTI performance, the FTI Gen 3 XPM torque converters provide the customer convenience and tunability.

“The industry needs technology that the end user can capitalize on without the help of a freight truck,” says FTI Performance Chief Technical Officer, Greg Samuel. “When they need it and how they need it!  This converter allows interchangeability as well as tunability beyond any other converter available.”

With convenience, tunability, and interchangeability, the FTI Gen 3 XPM torque converter is the perfect option for customers who have multiple vehicles or race in varying conditions. For more information about these torque converters and the rest of the FTI Performance line up, call (386) 736-5816 for more information.

Holley Intergalactic Ford Fest 2020: Welcome To The Blue Oval’s Burndown!

Holley Intergalactic Ford Fest 2020: Welcome To The Blue Oval’s Burndown!

LS Fest came and went. MoParty had it’s first showing. That means that it’s time for Mustangs, for Cobras, for Broncos, and every other thing that wears the legacy of Henry Ford on it’s sleeve. Holley’s Ford Fest is on and going strong in Kentucky, and we’re on hand to take care of things. Chad is doing what Chad does best, which is to entertain crowds in the circle pit with his infectious delivery, and I’m running around shooting photos in-between trips to the swap meet to look for parts for two Mustangs that keep pestering me for attention. And it’s a good thing that the swap meet was there, because parts are comin’ home with me! But enough about that, you’re probably just here to see what was going on at the show. Well, I don’t blame you one bit. Only in it’s second year, the Intergalactic Ford Fest is proving once again to be wildly popular. You don’t suppose that it’s because Bigfoot V, the behemoth with the 10-foot-tall tires on it, was around and about, do you?

We’ve got plenty of photos coming, so just stay tuned…there’s lots of good stuff to come!

Be sure to click on a photo below to check out the first gallery from the 2020 Ford Fest!

We Hit The Starting Line At Bonneville Speed Week 2020! Action Starts Right Here!

We Hit The Starting Line At Bonneville Speed Week 2020! Action Starts Right Here!

It’s that time folks! Racing has finally started at Bonneville Speed Week and we are so excited about the racing action that we couldn’t help but snag some photos to share all the greatness. With cars making their first passes down the salt Saturday morning, it was time to see just what the salt could handle and how much power everyone had to throw at it. Remember, make one hit over a record speed and you are going to Impound for inspection and certifications so that you can back it up the next morning for an official record. The earlier to you qualify for the record, the earlier you can pack up the trailer and start the drinking and socializing. You also get to limit your exposure to the hot Utah sun if you so choose.

We’re excited to see everything from a Roadster to the Speed Demon Streamliner going after big numbers. We’ll see how conditions manifested today and how many guys and gals can back it up tomorrow to take the record. Once again we’re sad not to be there ourselves this year, but luckily our dude Wes Allison was able to make things happen and show us all the hot action and cool cars that showed up this year.

Classic YouTube: Ronnie Sox’s 1995 Crash At The IHRA Summernationals At U.S. 41 Dragway

Classic YouTube: Ronnie Sox’s 1995 Crash At The IHRA Summernationals At U.S. 41 Dragway

Ronnie Sox needs no introduction here. The Sox and Martin cars instantly bring in images of red, white and blue Plymouths fitted with a four-speed manual and the man from North Carolina who could run that gearbox like P.T. Barnum’s lion trainer. Between 1968-1971, Sox was beating all comers with his stick-shifted Mopars. In 1972 the NHRA gave weight breaks to Fords and Chevrolets, which hurt his win streak, and when the Lenco transmission appeared, Sox was the only racer to actually slow down. By 1975 the Sox and Martin deal had folded and Ronnie went out on his own. In 1995 Sox paired off again with Buddy Martin and was fielding a Ford Probe in IHRA competition, right up until the Summernationals at U.S. 41 Dragway in Indiana.

Shortly after the launch, an oil line blew out and coated the track the car was on. Ronnie attempted to drive through as the car slid into the left lane, but when the back end came around on him and the tires dug in, there was no saving it. The Probe rolled fourteen times violently, throwing body panels before slamming down onto all four wheels with the engine on fire. Sox suffered a broken sternum, broken ribs, a bruised eye, and “a whole lot of other injuries. It was a bad scene,” he later told CompetitionPlus. Though he ran exhibitions up until 2005 and even ran Pro Stock Truck in 1998, the 1995 crash took a huge toll on Mr. Four-Speed.

The Greatest Drag Racing Wheelstand Video Ever Made? We Think So – More Than Four Minutes Of Bumper Dragging Fury

The Greatest Drag Racing Wheelstand Video Ever Made? We Think So – More Than Four Minutes Of Bumper Dragging Fury

We love wheelstand videos and we know that you do as well. Know who else does? Sean Melton of Urban Hillbilly Action Video and he’s got an archive of footage from his years at the drag strip that boggles the mind. Sean has been cranking out some great compilation videos recently but this is out favorite one yet. As in the other videos, Sean combines great video clips from years back with stuff that he has shot in more recent times.

One of the things that videos like this remind us of is the fact that there’s been absolutely nutty stuff happening, particularly with “small tire” drag cars for some years now. It kind of makes us feel old. Today’s world of advanced suspension designs, tire compounds, data acquisition, and pin point tuning see that the record books are rewritten on an almost week to week basis. The cars are still wild and they are faster than ever but it is always awesome to glance back to see the types of cars and runs that built the scene that we have today. This footage was shot at tracks all over the country and you’ll surely see some cars in here that you’ll remember.

This is over four minutes of non-stop craziness. Guys on one wheel, guys with all four off the ground and landings that range from violent to total plane crash level will keep you glued to your screen. Watching this video with my kids it was a slew of OHHHHs and WOAHHHHs though the whole thing. Grab the other guys in the shop, the other people in the office, or the weird booger eating guy on the other side of your cubicle and press play. Everyone loves this stuff!

How It’s Made Video: Follow A Cam From Core Selection To Finish Product At The COMP Cams Factory!

This is an awesome video that shows us some amazing stuff about one of the aftermarket industry’s truly important names. Yes, we are going inside the COMP Cams factory in Tennessee to see how a camshaft is made from the selection of the core to the machining and even to the micro finishing processes that COMP offers on their products as well. Things have come a long way since guys like Ed Iskendarian started grinding their own camshafts far more than a half century ago.

From the materials to the processes, accuracy, and quality, this is as good as it gets in the industry. COMP has been making camshafts for street guys, NASCAR teams, NHRA drag racing teams, sports car teams, open wheel racing competitors, monster truck racers, and anything else you can think of for longer than many of you reading this have been alive. Along the way they have taken every piece of acquired knowledge and plowed it back into their company to make products better. They continue to do that today.

The fascinating thing about this process to us is that it’s still very human. It is not just some massive automative factory with no people in it. There’s human talent at every step of this trip and we think you’ll appreciate that as well. The mix of cutting edge equipment and practices with the skilled hands of true machinists is a really fun intersection to watch.

Enjoy this amazing look behind the scenes at COMP Cams and the truly cool birth of a camshaft!
